During an art residency in Blanca, Spain, I engaged with Salinas del Curro, an abandoned salt plain, drawing parallels
with Al Maliha, the Palestinian village my grandmother was exiled from. I created a traditional thobe embroidered
with Palestinian motifs and local agricultural materials to map exile and abandonment across both landscapes. As
part of a village art festival, I performed this work beneath a walnut tree, curating a domestic setting with vessels
filled with lemons while reciting my grandmother’s poetry in Arabic and Spanish. This research traced how salt leaves
both physical and symbolic imprints, on land, on bodies, and on memory, linking ecological residue with inherited
displacement.
