PERFORMANCES

Blanca, Spain · Performance · 2025

During an art residency in Blanca, Spain, I developed and performed Janaa Wa Naar (Heaven & Hell), a live poetry reading and spatial installation responding to Salinas del Curro, an abandoned salt plain. The performance draws parallels between this site and Al Maliha, the Palestinian village my grandmother was exiled from.

I created a traditional thobe embroidered with Palestinian motifs and local agricultural materials to map exile, abandonment, and continuity across both landscapes. Performed beneath a walnut tree during the village’s All Day Art Festival, the work curated a domestic, ceremonial setting using vessels filled with lemons while I read my grandmother’s poetry in Arabic and Spanish.

The project traces how salt leaves physical and symbolic residue on land, bodies, and memory, linking ecological degradation to inherited displacement.
